Project - "The Journey West" has begun

Our project - The Journey West, has now finally taken off. The start of this project means that the industrial area in Fröland will slowly, but surely, be planned out based on the needs of the industry. As their needs consist of making new areas of land avaliable in Uddevalla. Sweden's need for logistical innovation is an important prerequisite for the avaliability of sustainable transports and for us to be able to offer good service to our customers.

Uddevalla Hamnterminal is managing the operation of the port area Fröland. The municipality of Uddevalla is the owner and responsible developer of the new area, consisting of approximately 15 ha of hardened industrial land. This area will be placed in close proximity to the port area.

- Today we handle both bulk and tanker goods at Fröland. However, within a five-year period we will handle more diversified goods here. Todays goods will be supplemented by volumes from and to industrial establishments of a larger kind than before. In order to make the logistics chain as cost-effective and sustainable as possible, our development project is run in close dialogue between the port and the municipality. It is a very rewarding and good collaboration between us, says Jacob Engholm, Marketing and Sales Manager at Uddevalla Hamnterminal.

Port of Uddevalla is a modern port with an infrastructure, that can meet the market's demand for increased frequency and capacity in all modes of transport. We see that there is a need for robust and reliable logistics solutions for industries and customers mainly in west-and central Sweden, in the coming years.

- This is an important long-term strategic roadmap, which will benefit both urban development and existing and new industrial establishments in Uddevalla, says Patrik Petré, Strategic manager at the Municipal Executive Office.

During 2019 Port of Uddevalla invested SEK 72 million in new cranes during, we also renovated quay sections on Skeppsholmspiren. Currently, we are renovating a quay at Sörvik, wich will be completed in December 2020. These investment, together with other smaller ones during a three-year period, is a historically large amount. The investments entails a long-term and sustainable future for us, our customers, employees and owners.
